Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information CalorieAI ("CalorieAI", "we", "us") collects when you use the CalorieAI app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built the app to collect only what it needs to track your food, water and weight.

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you tap Get Started we create an anonymous guest account for you — no name or email is needed. If you choose to save your account, we store the email address and a securely hashed password, or, if you use Sign in with Apple, the account identifier and email address Apple shares with us (which may be a private relay address).

Profile and goals. Your name (optional), sex, age, height, weight, target weight, activity level, goal, units, calorie and macro targets, water goal and reminder settings, plus your other answers to the setup questions (for example your motivation, what makes your goal hard, what matters most to you and how you heard about CalorieAI).

Health conditions. If you choose to tell us in setup that you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have diabetes or another medical condition, or have a history of an eating disorder, we store that answer and use it only to keep your plan safe (for example, by not setting a calorie target and suggesting you speak to a doctor). It is never used for advertising or shared except with our storage provider.

Health and nutrition logs. The foods and meals you log (including calories, protein, carbs and fat), water intake, and weigh-ins.

Meal photos and descriptions. Photos you take or choose for AI scanning, and any meal descriptions you type. A meal photo is deleted from our servers as soon as it has been analysed; the foods found and descriptions are kept in your scan history.

Progress photos. Body photos you choose to add in Progress, stored privately in your account so only you can see them.

Voice. When you log a meal by voice, your device's speech recognition (provided by Apple) turns your words into text; we receive only the text.

Purchases. If you subscribe to Premium, your subscription status and App Store purchase records (product, dates, price and country). Payment is handled by Apple; we never see your card details.

Feedback. Messages you send through Help & feedback, together with the app version and your device platform (iOS or Android).

Technical information. Basic data needed to run the service, such as authentication tokens and server logs (for example, request times and error codes).

2. How we use your information

We do not use your information for advertising and we never sell your personal data.

3. AI meal analysis

When you scan or describe a meal, the photo or text is sent to Google Gemini, an AI service provided by Google, to identify the foods and estimate their nutrition. It is sent only for that purpose and is handled under Google's terms for its API services. The same AI service writes your daily insights from summaries of your logged data.

We ask for your permission before the first time anything is sent to the AI. You can withdraw it anytime in Settings › AI meal analysis; AI logging then stays off and daily insights are written without AI.

AI estimates can be wrong. Always review and adjust the results before saving them to your diary.

4. Where your data is stored

Your account and data are stored with Supabase, our cloud database and storage provider. Access is protected by row-level security so that only your account can read or change your diary, logs and meal photos. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).

Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own. We only use providers that commit to protecting it to the same standard as this policy.

5. Sharing

We share data only with the service providers needed to run the app (Supabase for storage, Google Gemini for AI analysis with your permission, and RevenueCat to manage Premium subscriptions, which receives your account ID and App Store purchase records), when you ask us to (for example, when you export and share your own data), or when required by law. These providers may use the data only to provide their service to us and must protect it as this policy does.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, food diary, water and weight logs, scan history and progress photos. Deletion cannot be undone.

If you use a guest account and sign out or remove the app without saving your account, you will lose access to that data.

Feedback messages may be kept after account deletion, but are no longer linked to your account.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local data-protection law. Contact us to exercise them.

8. Children

CalorieAI is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, but no system is completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password if you save your account.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
